Nap time

As a parent of five who is alone with them roughly 10 months of the year, I find myself wanting to be in charge in the areas I can. Ha, but I also want to encourage the kids to have what in our house we call "supervised independence ". So, when my youngest daughter fussed about going to sleep for her nap in her own bed because she wanted to sleep like a big girl in her sisters room, I shrugged and figured 'why not, what could go wrong?'
She was thrilled as I tucked her into the bottom bunk.
I went downstairs and did dishes, laundry and even watered my garden.
The baby and she were both upstairs and I didn't hear a peep after I laid her down.
I was so proud of what a big girl she is becoming.
I snuck upstairs to peek in on my big kid.
I opened the door to find her standing in the middle of the room holding a red marker, covered head toe in scribbles.
She had an unappologetic look in her sparkly eyes.
I asked her what she had on her face, she said "it's a pen, happens".
She gave me an I couldn't help it hands up.

THIS is why I put her to sleep in her own bed, apparently I needed a reminder.
Point taken, sharpie.
